A love letter to actors.
Mirror Alchemy was an editorial and interactive performance piece that began in the fitting room. I was talking with an actress I’d worked with many times before and she was lamenting the kinds of roles she’s cast in. She looked in the mirror and told me her dream role which because of age and race she could never be commercially cast in. And, I thought, “what do we, as a community do with that reality?” As a costume designer, I spend so much time close to actors; physically, artistically and emotionally. This project was my way of giving some of those actors the opportunity to defy convention, type, gender, race and even the economics of contemporary theater.
